Longhai City

Longhai (simplified Chinese: 龙海市; traditional Chinese: 龍海市; pinyin: Lónghǎi Shì) is a County-level city within the municipality (or Prefecture-level city) of Zhangzhou. History

During the mid- and late Ming Dynasty, the port of Yuegang (月港, "Moon Harbor") was one of the four main commercial ports of Fujian and a key port in the Manila galleon trade.[2] It was located within the present-day Haicheng Town of Longhai City.[3][4]

Present-day Longhai City is the only county-level city within the prefecture-level city of Zhangzhou. It was formed from the merger of the former Longxi (龍溪縣) and Haicheng (海澄縣) counties on August 15, 1960.

The city's executive, legislature and judiciary are seated in Shima Town, together with the CPC and PSB branches.

These organs administer 12 Towns, 2 Townships (乡) (1 of them Ethnic), 4 Govt farms, 2 Govt forests and—as of 2009—3 Development zones:[5]
